Mambo Italiano Marks 20 Years of Culinary Excellence in Lake County

What began as a dream fueled by a fortuitous lottery win in 2004 has blossomed into one of Lake County’s most celebrated culinary destinations. Under the visionary leadership of owner Sal Cardone, Mambo Italiano has transformed from a modest two-storefront establishment into an expansive five-storefront restaurant along Butterfield Road in Mundelein, Illinois.

Two Decades of Growth and Community Support

The restaurant’s remarkable evolution over its 20-year history is a testament to the unwavering support of its loyal customer base, extending far beyond Lake County’s borders. Carol Levin of the GLMV Chamber of Commerce emphasizes what sets Mambo Italiano apart: “It’s a culinary experience that will have you coming back for more. The exceptional staff and cuisine are equally amazing, with each dish bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. Mambo Italiano truly knows how to create an authentic Italian dining experience.”

Partnership and Expansion During Challenging Times

When faced with the global shutdown, Cardone demonstrated his entrepreneurial spirit by turning challenge into opportunity. He undertook the remodeling of his second restaurant and formed a strategic partnership with Tony Fontanini, a respected name in the Chicagoland restaurant scene. This collaboration led to the creation of Sal & Tony’s, a suburban pizza and Italian food destination located at the Buffalo Grove Golf Course.

“Tony is the perfect business partner, putting his own twist into our loved cuisine and making the best pizza in the industry, delivering it with high-touch service that makes everyone feel like family,” Cardone shares. “Having him running Sal & Tony’s allows more time for my family at home and the Mambo family that has stayed loyal through many years of remodeling, expansions, shutdowns, and more over the past 20 years. I’m so thankful to all of our loyal customers for their business.”

Celebrating 20 Years of Excellence

Throughout September, Mambo Italiano invites the community to join in celebrating its 20th anniversary. As a multiple culinary award winner and featured restaurant on Check Please!, the establishment continues to set the standard for Italian cuisine in the region. For those yet to experience this legendary restaurant, the anniversary celebration presents the perfect opportunity to discover what may become their new favorite Italian dining destination.

Reservations can be made via OpenTable. With its proven track record of excellence and unwavering commitment to quality, Mambo Italiano looks forward to serving the community for many more years to come.
