Downtown Libertyville has been the center of our community’s life for over 180 years. Founded in 1836, our town quickly became a bustling hub of commerce and culture. The arrival of the Milwaukee Road railroad in 1880 further boosted our growth, making Libertyville a key stop between Chicago and Milwaukee.

Today, our downtown district retains much of its historic character. Stroll down Milwaukee Avenue, and you’ll find beautifully preserved buildings that tell the story of our past—from the 1878 Cook Memorial Library to the art deco Libertyville Township Hall built in 1938.
