Libertyville Police Investigate Series of Vehicle Break-ins and Thefts

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — The Libertyville Police Department is currently investigating a series of vehicle break-ins and thefts that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The incidents have left Libertyville residents concerned and prompted authorities to issue safety reminders to the community.

Incident Details

At approximately 2:20 a.m. on Wednesday, Libertyville police officers responded to multiple locations throughout the village following reports of suspicious individuals entering and rummaging through parked vehicles. In one particularly alarming instance, authorities received information about a group of 10 Black male suspects targeting vehicles in a specific area.

The crime spree wasn’t limited to vehicle break-ins, as police also received reports of stolen vehicles. One such incident occurred in the 1100 block of Sussex Lane, where a 2018 Subaru was reported stolen. The vehicle had been left unlocked with the keys inside, highlighting the importance of basic security measures.

Recovery of Stolen Vehicles

Thanks to modern technology, the stolen Subaru was equipped with a GPS tracker. This feature proved invaluable as it allowed authorities to locate the vehicle, which was found abandoned on I-94 near the Lake Forest Oasis. In an interesting development, police also discovered a stolen and unoccupied Dodge Durango near the abandoned Subaru, suggesting a possible connection between the two thefts.

  • 1100 block of Sussex Lane
  • 1200 block of Trinity Place
  • 1200 block of Abbey Court
  • 1100 block of Garfield Avenue

Safety Reminders for Residents

In light of these incidents, the Libertyville Police Department is urging residents to take proactive measures to protect their property. They have issued the following safety reminders:

  • Always lock your vehicles, even when parked in your driveway or garage
  • Remove all valuables from your vehicle, or at least keep them out of sight
  • Never leave keys or key fobs inside your vehicle
  • Ensure that all doors to your garage and residence are securely locked, especially at night

Community Assistance Requested

The Libertyville Police Department is actively seeking the community’s help in their ongoing investigation. They are asking residents who may have information or video surveillance footage that could assist in identifying or apprehending the suspects to come forward. This collaborative approach between law enforcement and the community is crucial in solving crimes and preventing future incidents.

If you have any information that could be helpful in this case, please contact the Libertyville Police Department’s Investigation Division at 847-362-8310. Your assistance, no matter how small it may seem, could be the key to solving these crimes and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
